I got something interesting in my email today. Apparently someone is suing Amazon! And it is a POD publisher!
Print on-demand Publisher Files Lawsuit Against Amazon.com
http://printceoblog.com/2008/05/booklocker-files-lawsuit-against-amazoncom
By Adam Dewitz on May 20th, 2008
“Print on-demand publisher BookLocker.com has filed an antitrust lawsuit against Amazon.com due to the companies decision at the end of March to require print-on-demand books be printed inside Amazon’s own fulfillment centers. A PDF of the complaint is available from BookLocker.com.”
“The complaint alleges Amazon.com is in violation of the Sherman Act by engaging in tying a violation of section 1 of the Sherman Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1.”
Pretty exciting, huh?

I refuse to be held accountable for any deaths that may be blamed on this posting. Yes, I can suggest murder, but it’s a very personal decision to actually commit one. Should someone make that decision, they are on their own. Unless they have an accomplice, and then they are in it with an accomplice. I wouldn’t recommend that though. Working with a partner is always just an invitation to have someone go all tattletale on you and try to get a plea bargain later. Watch a marathon of Law & Orders, CSIs, and Bones, and study up. If you are going to do murder, for goodness sake, do it right.

Off your cubicle neighbor.
Listen, I’m not promoting murder here. I am very anti-violence. I also am well aware that a boss may force your hand on this issue. I mean, Christian or not, you probably don’t want to break a commandment… just in case, but what if the only thing that stands between you and full-time writing bliss is a nosy person whose only contribution to the world is foulness? Wouldn’t you be doing the world a favor? At the very least, you will be doing yourself a favor.
Right or wrong… Or is it write or wrong?
Exactly.

- Write a book. Write from the heart. Don’t follow popular formulas. Use uncommon words that might necessitate context clues, maybe even a dictionary, something that you know a “real†publisher would never touch because it’s not dumbed down.
- Self-publish. You can be dead in the water before you’ve even hopped out of the boat, and plenty in debt to boot!
- Be a poor salesperson. You are an author. This should come naturally.
- Invent genius schemes to try to get people to buy your book… that also don’t work.
- Sleep on the boxes. You have to store them somewhere, and you probably can’t afford a whole lot of space
