The Method

I love how, in every single activity that you can undertake in the universe, there is at least one method of achievement actually called “the method”. Take method acting for instance.
Of course, method is a fitting word. It is a method. But it is hardly fair to shanghai the term like that, because any way of getting from point A to point B is a ’method’ of getting there. And there are always different methods. Which means that whatever method calls itself “the method,” it’s never actually the method. It’s simply a method, along with however many other methods may exist.
Like, if I want to go to Paris right now (and I do… RIGHT NOW), I can get there by plane, but I can also get there by boat. If I build up my stamina, I might even swim across the Atlantic. There are several methods. It’s damn arrogant to christen your way ‘the method’.
